There are those who say that there is no more good deli in this town. To them I say look no further than the Parkway Deli. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood shopping center just off Rock Creek Park, Parkway Deli has been serving up Jewish soul food for nearly 50 years in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The place is always packed for breakfast and lunch during the week, but especially for brunch on the weekends. People flock here for their large portions of delicious freshly-prepared corned beef, brisket and turkey, made on the premises.
Of course they’ve got a killer Matzo Ball soup, sure to cure even the worst cold or flu. when ordering, a cup is plenty for one, a bowl could feed a family offour . Their smoked fish are all fresh and delicious, from lox to sable to whitefish spread. In addition, they bake their own fresh cookies and breads.
No one does a classic Reuben better! Of course, you’ll find the complete selection of Dr. Brown’s sodas, and did I mention the free pickle bar that would even impress Sam the Pickle Man from Crossing Delancey.
And the service…you couldn’t ask for better! These are old-school waitresses, who embrace the moniker, noting, “we’re more than just servers,” and two of them they have been delivering delicious food to discerning kibbitzers for 32 years; K. C. (who used to be Kathy Clark until she met her husband at the deli and is now Kathy Kaplowitz); and Mary Anne (Cipolari), who says the restaurant is really “like our living room.”
Manager Tammy Dubin was a regular before she started working at Parkway 12 years ago and loves coming in every day to see her friends both on staff and in the dining room. She fancies herself a matchmaker with a ll of the single men and women always complaining to her that they can’t find anyone special. Though she only has one match officially recorded (she pushed K.C. and her husband together, and they have been married nine years) some lucky couple could be next!
Featured on The Food Network’s “Best Of” East Coast Delis, and Zagat rated, this is the place to go for a great quick nosh. And if you go, you will be in good company. Celebrities like Goldie Hawn, Soupy Sales, former Redskins great Dexter Manley, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty and dozens of local newscasters have called on Parkway for years.
